New Life – April-June 2022

Dlr Lens, an online artist residency commissioned by the dlr Arts Office, April-June 2022. The theme for the quarter was ‘New Life’ with images published through the dlr Arts Office social media channels. Each week, from April-June 2022, I created a new image on the theme. The public were encouraged to join in, tagging their images with #dlrLens and #dlrLens_NewLife

Image title: Cherry blossom, whites and pinks This square image is a montage of cherry blossom flowers. This is a photomontage made up of triangles, each 2 sets of triangles make up a square. There are white gaps separating the triangles. This is a detailed montage with 128 triangles. Each triangle has a different close up photograph of cherry blossom flowers, in pink and white varieties, against a rich blue sky.
Image title: Changing light This square photomontage documents different views of the sky. 23 thin vertical strips of photographs are joined side by side to complete a square. Each image shows a different view of the sky in different weather conditions and different times of the day. Some of the sky photographs have clouds and some are clear blue, some are dark and rainy and some have orange tints suggesting sunsets.
Image title: A pink cloud against the blue This is a square image in 2 halves, as a diptych. The left side is a view looking up into a cherry blossom tree. Bunches of soft pink blossoms are hanging down with a blue sky in the background. The right side of the image is a photograph of the sky, the top is bright blue and the end half of the picture has a fluffy cloud backlit on the edges by sunlight.
Image title: Among the trees This is a square image in 2 halves, as a diptych. The left side is a close up of a branch of leaves on a tree. A small broken pale blue egg shell is resting on the surface of the leaves, like it has fallen from a nest, the edges of the egg shell are broken. The right side of the picture shows the trunk of a tree that’s covered in moss, there is a close up on the left side and the trunk moves horizontally to the right out of sight. It could be a fallen tree. Other trees are seen in the distance and give the impression that the tree is in woods. The overall colour palette of the image is shades of green.

Each image shows a different segment of sea, some close up, in lighter shades of blue and green, some views reach further away to show deeper shades, sunlight reflects on the surface of the water in some of the seascapes.
Image title: Garden colour revisited On the left half of this square montage is a single photo of a new fern leaf, unfurling at its tip. The right side of the image is a photo montage of 8 narrow vertical strips of photographs of flowers including orange marigolds, yellow and pink roses, purple campanula, and yellow buttercup flowers.
